Luke Kuggeleijn selected as ACT Local Candidate for Motukairangi/Eastern General Ward of the Wellington City Council

ACT Local has selected Luke Kuggeleijn — a biomedical science graduate, national-level triathlete, and surf lifeguard — as its candidate for the Motukairangi/Eastern General Ward of the Wellington City Council in this year’s local election.

Born and bred in Wellington’s Eastern suburbs, Luke is currently completing postgraduate study in medical technology while working part-time as a swim coach and surf lifeguard. Whether it’s in the lab, on the sports track, or on the frontlines of community safety, Luke brings discipline, focus, and a can-do attitude to everything he does.

He’s part of a new generation of leaders who want to see Wellington thrive — without the ideology and excuses.

“I hear the same frustrations every day; crumbling infrastructure, soaring rates, and council more focused on ideology than results. I’m standing to change that. With ACT’s backing, I’ll bring a science-based, common-sense approach to local government: fix the pipes, stop the waste, and get Wellington moving again.” – Luke Kuggeleijn

When you vote ACT Local, you know what you're getting:

  • Fixing the basics
  • Cutting the waste
  • Ending race-based politics
  • Restoring accountability

ACT Local Government spokesperson Cameron Luxton says:

“ACT Local candidates are community-minded Kiwis who’ve had enough of wasteful councils treating ratepayers like ATMs. It’s time to take control on behalf of ratepayers — to restore accountability and deliver real value for money. ACT Local is about getting the basics right: maintaining roads, keeping streets clean, and respecting the people who pay the bills. Our candidates won’t divide people by race or get distracted by climate vanity projects. They’re here to serve, not lecture." – Cameron Luxton
